Irgoli (Sardegna)
| Irgoli is
found 38 km east of Nuoro,
200 km north of Cagliari, 100 km south of Olbia and, as
the crow flies, 4 km from the beach in Orosei. It makes
up a part of the vast central-eastern region of Sardinia
named "Baronie".
Nowadays, Irgoli continues to be a
town of agricultural economic significance, with a growing
tourism industry thanks to the increasing value of local goods
and produce.

Sardinia: the island of sun, sea
and sand! However, the "mecca" of thousands of tourists each
year contrasts the fact that it is the least evangelised region
in Italy. One and a half million people inhabit the island and
amongst these there are no more than a thousand evangelical
christians. They are scattered among some 20 small congregations
who have barely any contact between them. On the island,
religious traditions are practised by the locals often bordering
that of occultism.
Gioventù in Missione started evangelising
on the island in 1984 with summer missions taking place for a
few years until a Discipleship Training School and a School of
Biblical Studies were established. Each year in August, the
number of students at the Summer School ever increases. GiM's objective is to encourage unity among the
believers of the island, offering biblical teaching and looking
after those needing counselling or spiritual and practical help.
GiM is recognised as a Voluntary
Association qualified to work in the social sector and is a
member of ONLUS.
