Perugia (Umbria)
The
burden we have for Central Italy led us to start a new
GiM base here in Umbria in August 1997.
In this first year we sought to lay down the foundations
with intercessory prayer, as well as develop contacts
with the local churches and missions who already had a
work here. We were also able to welcome guests and
volunteers who came on a short and longer term basis.
Our office is situated 8 km from Centro Storico (the
Historical Centre) and the University for Foreigners,
and
Assisi can be seen from the other side of the valley. At
the moment, however, we are looking for a bigger
building suitable enough to accommodate groups for
evangelism and a discipleship training schools fit for
God's work. |

The vision
Our vision is to reach Central
Italy through intercession, evangelism, the training of
believers and supporting the local churches. Many areas of
Umbria, Tuscany, Lazio, the Marches, and Abruzzo have almost no
evangelical witness so there is no shortage of work to be done.
Our desire is to see revival come to Central Italy, which in
turn will have an impact on the whole nation of Italy,
especially those parts not yet reached with the Gospel.
Umbria, called "The Green Heart of Italy," is strategically
placed in the nation of Italy both because of its geographical
location and its historical-spiritual inheritance. This region
has given birth to many "spiritual" movements in the past which
have had a major influence world-wide. Some of these have been
positive in their impact, whereas others, unfortunately, have
been less so. We are convinced that reaching this area will
continue to have spiritual and social after-effects well beyond
its own borders.
Another aspect which encourages us to have a world vision is the
fact that Perugia hosts the biggest University for Foreigners in
Italy. These young people could become very influential in their
own countries. Reaching them with the gospel means we can touch
whole people groups for Christ who come from countries otherwise
closed to the gospel for religious or political reasons. This is
therefore one of our main objectives.
Activities
We do regular evangelism in collaboration with the local
churches in this area, as well evangelising with Churches from
other areas of Italy who request our collaboration.
Hospitality is also part of the vision the Lord has given us. We
are convinced that individuals and groups who come to visit us
can also make an important contribution towards reaching this
area with the gospel and seeing fruit that will last.
We have done some work among the college students in the past,
and we are planning on starting a full-scale Campus Ministry for
the college students.

A suitable
structure for our GiM Centre, capable of hosting groups of
people for the various courses and activities we have on our
hearts to do. Our research has shown that it is difficult to
find a suitable building to rent. Even if one turns up for
rent, we feel in the end that that would be a waste of money
and resources. Consequently we are seriously thinking about
the option to buy. For this we need a huge capital, so our
faith is being stretched to the maximum! We realise we need
a miracle from the Lord to see His provision for such a sum.

We also need
staff who can commit themselves for at least one year.

A secretary (who can come for a short or
longer period) and who can at least speak and write in
Italian and English.
